Classic Cortinas, Capris and Campers, Rally On Wyre
Hundred of vintage cars, vans and motorbikes will be driving into Wyre early next month to take part in St Michael on Wyre’s annual Classic Vehicle and Vintage Rally.
On Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th July, more than 500 vintage vehicles including classic cars and steam engines will gather at Hamilton House Farm near Garstang. One colourful steam roller will be celebrating its centenary at the event.
“Owd Isaac”, a Burrell Steam Road Roller was built in Norfolk in 1904 and named after its owner at former Fleetwood firm, Isaac Ball and Sons. Part of a fleet of forty engines, “Owd Isaac” traveled around Blackpool and Wyre rolling roads. The 15 tonne roller was bought in 1973 by Isaac Ball’s great grandson, Brian Rawstrone.
Brian, from Cleveleys said, “I bought “Owd Isaac” from the family business more than thirty years ago. We’ll be using the rally as an opportunity to celebrate his 100 years. I don’t think my grandfather would be too impressed with the party and seeing all the engines lined up in the field. He would probably think they should be out working!”
Individual entrants and members of classic car clubs from across the North West are also gathering: The New Lancashire VW Camper Club, Lancashire Capri Club and
The Merseyside MG Owners Club are just a few of the organizations taking part.
Mark Woodward, the event’s organiser, said, “This rally is very much a traditional, family event. It is our fourth year at St Michaels and the show now covers several fields. It’s becoming a massively successful event - Last year more than 3,500 people visited”
The classic cars and vintage vehicles will be joined by colourful and traditional fairground rides. One of the most popular attractions for collectors and renovators is likely to be the Auto Jumble where original, but obsolete car parts can be bought. There will also be a beer tent and food available.
The show takes place at Hamilton House Farm on the A586 between St Michaels and Garstang and is open 10am – 4 on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th July.
Admission is Ł5.00 for adults and Ł4.00 for senior citizens. Children are free.
