How to configure Outlook Express to send and receive email
To configure Outlook Express for sending and receiving email follow the instructions below:
- Open Outlook Express
- Select the Accounts option from the Tools menu. The Internet Accounts dialog box appears:

- Click on the Mail tab from the menu that appears.
- Click on the Add button to add a new account. The Internet Connection Wizard appears:

- Enter the name you want to appear in the From field of outgoing email messages, and click on the Next button.
- Enter the email address that people must use when sending email to you, and click on the Next button. The Email Server Name dialog box appears:

In the Incoming mail box enter mail.yourdomain.co.uk.

In the Outgoing mail box enter the name of the SMTP server provided by your ISP, e.g. If you use BT for your Internet connection the SMTP could be smtp.btconnect.com. Click on the Next button. The Password dialog box appears:

Enter, in the Account Name box, your full email address.

Enter your mailbox password, and click on the Next button to complete the configuration of Outlook Express.
How do I access my email via the web?
Go to http://webmail.yourdomain.co.uk/ and enter your email address into the mailbox space, and your password into the password space, then click login. There is a full Help menu on the top navigation bar.
How do I remove emails that I cannot download?
Go to http://webmail.yourdomain.co.uk/ and enter your email address into the mailbox space, and your password into the password space, then click login.
You can then check the boxes of emails you want to delete and in the ‘Actions…’ menu at the bottom, select delete. Alternatively, you can choose another option from the ‘Select messages…’ menu to then delete as required.
What are MX Records?
The MX records specify the server on the Internet that is responsible for handling any email that is sent to your domain. So basically, any email address that ends with your domain name (For Example: office@yourdomain.co.uk or info@yourdomain.co.uk)
If we are transferring your domain from another host, we will ask you for the MX record, to avoid a temporary lose of email.
What is SMTP?
SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Simply put it is the Internet standard for transferring messages from one email system to another.
The problem with SMTP is that it can only send messages not receive them, and it can only send these messages as text files.
What do I do if I forget or want to change my password?
If you have forgotten your password or simply want to change it, call LA Serve on 0845 4561166 and ask for email support. We will be able to reset your password for you.
Have your email address and new password (min. of 6 characters) ready before you call.
How do I set up a vacation message in outlook?
To set up a vacation message, you would need to contact email support at LA Serve on 0845 4561166. Before you call, please have your message prepared.
I am not receiving email
Check the following things:
- Delete some of the messages in your mailbox, as your mailbox could be full.
- Log into WebMail (see above - Using WebMail) and delete messages over 5MB.
- Go into the tools menu, got into rules wizard and remove any rules that might be stopping emails getting to you.
- The emails might contain an attachment with a unsupported file extension.
- It may be a problem at the senders end. If you are having difficulty receiving emails from one particular person, the problem possibly lies with their system.
- If you have one, your spam filter may be set at such a high level that it prevents legitimate mail from reaching you.
Cannot send an email
Check the following things:
- Check that your SMTP settings are correct. You can check you SMTP setting by going into the tools menu, click onto accounts, properties, then server.
- Make sure that you are connecting to the Internet when sending.
Cannot send an email attachment
Check that your attachment is no larger than 5 MB.
Cannot receive an email attachment
To protect your computer from possible viruses, Microsoft Outlook may not download file attachments with the following extensions:
.ade .adp .bas .bat .chm .cmd .com .cpl .crt .exe .hlp .hta .inf .ins .isp .js .jse .lnk .mdb
.mde .msc .msi .msp .mst .pcd .pif .reg .scr .sct .shs .url .vb .vbe .vbs .wsc .wsf .wsh
To receive these file types you should ask the sender to put the attachment into a zip file and resend the email.
